The power of Mantra For Today
Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu
What a wonderful mantra. In fact, it's my favourite mantra, and I use it all the time in class and my private practice. Generally speaking, Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu means May All Beings Be Happy and Free. A second half may be added to this mantra: And may the thoughts, words, and actions of my life contribute to that happiness for all.
More specifically:
Lokah ~ means the world, realm, or universe. The whole of our existence.
Samastah ~ is the whole or entire
Sukhino ~ from the work such meaning sweet, joy, or happiness
Bhavantu ~ this is the imperative form of "may everyone". This is not a helpful suggestion but a command.
May the entirety of our existence be happy and free. That is the literal meaning of this mantra! How many of us benefit from hearing this on a regular basis? I know I do.
This mantra can easily be incorporated into your daily practice. Feel free to add it to the end of an asana practice or as a japa meditation. Use it in the morning to guide you throughout your day.
